Girls Story
My Name is Prekshya Rai 17 years old. I was born as a youngest doughter in a family of 4 daughters and 3 sons. All my brothers were sent school and my sisters (elders) were married at the age of 13 and 14. Due to my domestic responsibilities, I was frequently late for school, and have never got time to study at home after school. My parents were already thinking about gettimg me married when I was in grade 8 but I frequently denied and didn’t stop going to school at any situation and completed my grade 10. Soon after I passed grade 10 I knew about this amazing hostel project through local radio, which gave me hope to continue my education.
I appeared the test and the interview by Himalayan Hope Home for hostel enrollment and finally got a seat here. The day I saw my name in selected category was the most beautiful day of my life because first of all I have escaped the fear of pressure for marriage and I have now unlimited opportunities in my life to learn and widen my thinking capacity otherwise I have now dropped my school and got married which definitely was not my choice.
Now I am very happy, here I have many friends and always have plenty of time to learn, play and interact. I will make the best use of my stay in this hostel and I want stop the discrimination between sons and daughters and want to help those who are like my past…for girls who are bright like me from poor families…they can help other poor people….” My Name is Prekshya Rai 17 years old.
