Himalayan Hope Home construction in Kathmandu is progressing and we are happy and proud at the same time for this new project as we prepare to take the challenge of raising 40 vulnerable orphan girls in our this beautiful home. Not only in Nepal but worldwide innocent children become orphans by no fault of their own. It is sad that many of those young orphans didn’t even know why their fathers were killed in a war for which they have nothing to do with.
When I met Sunita 7 years at Basa carrying a basket full of firewood and asked her about why is she not in school she shared her story of being alone and now has no resource to support her education. I don’t remember much but it was a day I woke up one morning and I was all alone. That day I waited for long time for my father to come home and but he never came, in the evening I saw army people surrounding our home and they burn it, I cried but no one cared. The next day I saw my father was lying on the way where he usually go to collect grass for our cow. As I reach him, he was cold had blood on his chest no snores and no coughing from that day he never woke up.
Looking at Sunita’s innocent face and listening to her tragic story broke me, my eyes filled with tears and I could not stop it from falling, immediately she looked at my face and asked can you tell me why did they killed my father? Actually who killed him?? Because I have passed 5 years without him and I always wish him to be with me in those nights when hunger or a frightening dream troubled sleep. I could not answer her and it is a huge question for such an innocent young mind, but I realize that she felt the tragedy in her soul, at and within, the very core of her being.
This poor little girl was not from Basa but was travelled there from some other village where she lost everything and was ignored by her villager, Now she is working as a helper in a local house at Basa.
The house owner tried to find about Sunita’s family and knew that her mother was dead when she gave birth to her at age of 17 and left with her father who was 21 but when she was about 2 years old her father was killed in a cross firing between Maoist and army in her village. No one likes to keep her with them in her village because they think she is a bad luck that at such a young age her parents are died it is because of her. So that at such a young age she travelled in search of food to meet her basic need. Sunita made the choice solely out of necessity. Just like anyone, they will do what they need to survive. That’s a decision a child should not have to make at such a crucial age.
I met many children who lost their parents but most of them are working as a helper in many middle class families but this one is very typical her story is tragic on top of this story the social ignorance toward her is unbearable.Childrens without parents are most vulnerable, to being brought up in lives of crime, sold off into slavery, sexually exploited, and turned into child labor.
Himalayan Hope Home will be a shelter for those most vulnerable orphan girls on which nutrition, education and health care can be built. Your help will give these vulnerable girls the resource and social support they need for the future, your gift of hope allows them to learn in a safe secure home. We need people like you to help us make a difference in their lives.
